Steven C. Griffen, MD, has over 20 years of experience spreading across academic research, drug and device development, and disease related non-profit leadership. Dr. Griffen serves as our Vice President, Clinical Development.

Dr. Griffen most recently provided consulting services for pharmaceutical and medical device development. Previously, he served as the medical lead for integrated care at Sanofi, developing software and device support for people with diabetes to assist them in managing the disease. He has also served as the senior vice president, research at JDRF, a non-profit organization funding transformative research and supporting advocacy for people with type 1 diabetes. Dr. Griffen’s entry into the pharmaceutical industry was with Bristol Myers Squibb where he served in various roles, including leading numerous first-in-human studies, supporting registrational activities for multiple cardiovascular and metabolic drugs and leading the efforts for the development of dapagliflozin in type 1 diabetes. Prior to this, he was faculty at the University of California, Davis, where he was the endocrinology fellowship director, served as clinical faculty in internal medicine and endocrinology and led active clinical and basic research programs. Dr. Griffen earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physiology and endocrinology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his medical doctorate from the Medical College of Wisconsin. His internal medicine residency was completed at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and endocrinology fellowship was at the University of California, San Francisco.
